Where My Approach Was Shaped
My career has given me a perspective that goes well beyond recruiting and HR. I’ve worked inside organizations, partnered with business leaders, built workplace systems from the ground up—and experienced firsthand what it’s like to own and operate a small business.
At one point in my career, I stepped into an organization of about 100 employees that had no formal HR structure. I started by listening—to leadership, supervisors and employees—to understand what was really happening inside the business.
What surfaced wasn’t one problem. There were concerns about pay, recognition, inconsistent performance reviews, supervisor relationships and a lack of clear structure. And many of those issues were connected.
By putting better systems in place around performance, compensation, policies, communication and leadership—and helping supervisors understand and support the changes—we created more consistency and a stronger workplace
That experience reinforced something I’ve seen throughout my career: workplace problems rarely exist in isolation. You have to understand how the pieces connect before you decide what to fix.
I’ve Sat on Both Sides of the Table
I’ve spent years working inside organizations, partnering with leaders and solving workplace challenges. But becoming a small business owner myself gave me an entirely different perspective.
When you own the business, every decision feels different. Staffing, payroll, customers, expenses, employees and growth are all connected.
That experience changed how I help business owners. I don’t just look at the workplace from an HR perspective. I understand it from the owner’s side of the desk, too.
